Ever had one of those nights where Mother Nature decides to shake things up—literally? That was me at 3 AM, woken up by brutal winds, loud thunder, and lightning flashing across the sky. It was one of the worst windstorms I’ve experienced in a long time! Since I was already awake, I figured I’d take a look outside to see what was going on… and saw absolutely nothing. Just darkness, howling wind, and my poor trash can looking like it was ready to take off on a solo adventure. Since it was empty, I figured it was best to rescue it before it rolled off down the street. My cat, Cuddles, of course, assumed all of this was entirely for his entertainment. 😹

A Rainy Morning and an Inspiring Meeting
By the time morning rolled around, the storm had calmed down into just “normal rain,” so I hit the road to Forney for a packed day of meetings. First stop? MetroTex Kaufman County Meeting—one I always try to attend but hadn’t been able to make in a while. I was so glad I did today because the keynote speaker was Chief White with Forney PD, and she was absolutely amazing.
Instead of focusing on crime rates or statistics (which I was expecting), she spoke about her journey as a woman in a male-dominated industry. Her experiences, challenges, and wisdom were beyond inspiring. She’s done so much and has so much knowledge to share—it was one of those talks that really makes you think.

From Warm Inspiration to Freezing Reality
Right after that meeting, I had another one in the same building, just a different room. Easy, right? Well… I walked in and immediately felt like I had stepped into a different climate zone. 63 degrees inside! ❄️ Now, I don’t know about you, but I do not function well in the cold. There was no way I was sitting through an hour-long meeting shivering, so I had to run back to my car, grab my heated blanket, and find an outlet. Yes, I was that person at the meeting. 😂

Unfortunately, the whole cold situation really affected my networking. I couldn’t move around and chat with people as much as I wanted, and by the time it warmed up a little, I had to leave before I started feeling unwell. I hate being that sensitive to cold—it’s such a mess sometimes! But despite all that, the Forney Area Networking Group meeting was still a great one. I got to catch up with some amazing people I hadn’t seen in a while, and it reminded me why I love getting out and being part of these groups.

Wrapping Up the Day
Now, as I sit at my desk finishing up computer work, I can still hear the wind howling outside. It’s been a day of storms, networking, inspiration, and unexpected battles with conference room temperatures. But hey, it’s all part of the adventure, right?
Here’s to more great meetings (hopefully at warmer venues), powerful conversations, and keeping those trash cans where they belong!
