This week’s forecast has me bracing for a showdown with the cold weather I had hoped to leave behind when I moved to Texas. Let’s just say, cold and I don’t get along—at all. Ever since some health issues a few years back, my body decided it doesn’t handle the cold well anymore, so I have to be extra cautious. And here I am, a Swede in Texas, thinking I’d escaped icy winters forever. Oh, the irony!
When I moved here, I laughed at the idea of needing my snow shovel. It accidentally made the move with me, and we got such a good chuckle imagining it collecting dust. Little did I know it would be a lifesaver during the infamous Snowmageddon a couple of years ago! Who knew Texas winters had a sneaky side?
But this time, I’m ready. My horses got their winter meal plan yesterday—one round bale of hay each. A well-fed horse is a warm horse, and I’ve made sure they’re set. My freezer is stocked with enough food to outlast a polar vortex, my backyard plants are inside, A/C filter is freshly changed, and most importantly, I’ve dug out Twix’s coat and my trusty ski pants.
I might not love the cold, but I’m prepared for it. So, bring it on, winter! Let’s see what you’ve got. At least I know one thing for sure—there’s no snow shovel emergency I can’t handle anymore.
