This event absolutely had the correct name! It was a very happy day in Terrell. The sun was shining and it was nice in the sun (but a little chilly in the shade). Terrell Chamber Of Commerce together with Downtown Small Businesses pulled off the event Happy Days in Terrell for Mom & Pop’s Small Business Week next week. There were a car show going on, music was playing, several vendors outside other stores as well. Shops had deals and it was just a great time!
Kristy Dooley, owner of Whisked Away Bakehouse in Terrell invited me to set up a booth for Harlequin Tea outside her store. I did not hesitate to accept that invitation. So generous of her to offer a couple of small businesses to use the space outside and inside her store!
It was a little windy this morning when I set up my tables so I could only have the large bags out and they had to lay down. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and that was today. But it worked out very well actually!
I prefer to have them standing up but if the wind has another opinion, it’s not much you can do about it. The walkway was so narrow anyway so people had to look when they passed by. The colorful bags also attracts the eye so people automatically look as well.
Saleswise I did over my goal and expectation. I am so happy! I now met my sales goal for March! 18 bags if tea were sold which is really good for this small event.
But what really honors and humbles me is two things. First; network and get to know other small business owners in the area. Many of these vendors are not going to weekly networking events or chamber meetings because this is their sidegig and they can’t get off their Monday to Friday 8 to 5 job. I had the pleasure to get to know Ash Long, owner of Sweetie Pies. Not only does she make delicious pies, she also has a Dalmatian… we had our tables next to each other and we had so much fun!
My oldtime friend Janne Karhunen and I always have fun together. You see he is also Swedish 🇸🇪 so we take the opportunity to speak our native language which always confuses people. They think we are mad at each other, and as you see, we are… Janne is the owner of Texas Hobocats Leather and he creates some beautiful things!
The second thing that humbles and honors me is everyone who comes out and supports small businesses at events like this! I tried to get selfies with everyone but was completely unsuccessful in this mission. But I got some…
Thank you to each and everyone who came out today! You made not only my day but all the other small business owners day as well! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Finally… I fell for it… back in January when I had the Kick Off Event for Harlequin International I ordered cinnamonrolls from Mizell Farms… she also have Nutella cinnamonrolls… please don’t tell my doctor… but no, I will not share with anyone. It is all mine!
Now comes the “aftermath” of an event… bookkeeping, inventory, restock etc. But when you had a successful event like today, it’s not that hard actually. Today brought so many smiles and laughters and I am fulfilled with joy so it will be a good couple of hours of work to get done. My next event isn’t until two weeks so I don’t have to stress about it either. I will be on Eclipse On The Bricks in Wills Point on April 6th.
